In the opening quarter of 2026, Winchester Terrace was identified as the third largest nursing home in Richland County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility maintained 83 beds—seven above the county average for the period. It cared for an average of 49.1 residents each day in the first quarter of 2026.

Winchester Terrace received a CMS overall rating of 3 out of 5, which falls below the statewide nursing home average of 3.2 in Ohio.

Within the county, Crestwood Care Center had the most beds at 130, while Arbors at Mifflin was second with 99 beds during the quarter.

Throughout the first quarter of 2026, Winchester Terrace reported no fines or penalties.

There were 10 for-profit nursing homes operating in Richland County, Ohio, during that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the older adult population in the U.S. is expanding, while younger populations contract. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas the under-18 population declined by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the U.S. older adult population increased dramatically, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

Research published in 2021 found that almost half of Americans age 65 and up—about 28 million—are expected to require some form of long-term services and support. More than one-third may ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, said. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
