State Representative Melanie Miller has announced the passage of Senate Bill 100 by the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill, which now awaits the Governor's signature, provides an opportunity for members of the Ohio Farm Bureau to obtain more affordable and personalized health insurance coverage.

The legislation aims to tackle a major challenge faced by individuals in farming and agriculture: securing cost-effective healthcare for their families. The newly established Farm Bureau Health Plan will be individually evaluated, self-governed, and self-funded, thus exempt from regulation and Affordable Care Act guidelines. This initiative offers an alternative healthcare option specifically for those within the agricultural sector.

Miller expressed her support for the bill, stating, “As someone who proudly represents many rural communities across Ohio, I understand the unique challenges our farmers face, especially when it comes to accessing affordable healthcare. By co-sponsoring Senate Bill 100, we are supporting a solution that empowers Ohio Farm Bureau members with more healthcare choices tailored to their needs.” She added that this legislation demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that those who provide food for the state have access to necessary healthcare resources.

Agriculture plays a vital role in Ohio's economy, contributing over $100 billion and providing employment for one out of every seven residents. The state boasts more than 75,000 farms, with 90% being family-owned.
