State Representative Melanie Miller honored a local midwife at the Statehouse during Midwives Advocacy Day. Mary Cooper was presented with the Ohio Midwives Alliance 2025 "Midwife of the Year" award for her extensive contributions to women's health. Over her 46-year career, Cooper has delivered more than 4,500 babies, including 54 sets of twins.

Miller highlighted the essential role midwives play in maternity care. "Midwives provide essential care and support to women and infants throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period," said Miller. She emphasized that their contribution is invaluable in ensuring personalized and compassionate care during significant life moments. "Mary Cooper is no different," she added, noting Cooper's dedication over more than four decades.

The event also saw participation from State Representative Riordan McClain as they celebrated International Day of Midwives with various midwifery groups during a House session.
