State Rep. Melanie Miller | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Melanie Miller has introduced a new piece of legislation aimed at establishing the Ohio Sports Commission. Miller, representing the city of Ashland, is leading this initiative alongside State Representative Dontavius L. Jarrells from Columbus.
The proposed commission seeks to enhance Ohio's sports industry while providing resources to boost local efforts. Its mission is to position Ohio as a leading destination for both national and international sporting events.
Miller, who chairs the House Arts, Athletics & Tourism Committee, reflected on the significance of the bill: "As Chairwoman of the House Arts, Athletics & Tourism Committee, I believe the creation of this commission is an important step to amplify Ohio’s sports industry, directly spurring economic growth throughout our communities."
A 17-member board would govern the Ohio Sports Commission, focusing on several key areas: conducting studies on the potential development of sports tourism in Ohio, collaborating with private and public entities to bring major events to the state, and crafting policy recommendations related to sports infrastructure and development.
The legislation is currently awaiting a bill number and a committee assignment in the House.
