The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill 688, which aims to establish September 28th as Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Day. The announcement was made by the bill's sponsor, State Representative Marilyn John from Richland County.

Speaker Jo Ann Davidson, born on September 28, 1927, had a significant impact on state and national politics over nearly six decades. Her tenure in the Ohio House spanned more than twenty years. During this time, she held roles such as Minority Whip and Minority Leader before becoming the first and only female Speaker of the Ohio House from 1995 to 2000.

State Rep. Marilyn John remarked on Davidson's legacy: “The definition of public servant is an individual whose primary motivation and role are to serve the interests, needs and well-being of the public,” adding that Davidson "was a true public servant who set an example for those around her and those that followed her."

With its passage in the House, House Bill 688 will now proceed to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
