The Seneca-Crawford Area Transportation (SCAT) has recently rebranded to North Central Area Transit (NCAT). This change comes in line with its extension into Huron County, following an agreement with the Huron County Commissioners and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The agreement guarantees the continued provision of public transportation services for Seneca and Crawford counties.
Board President Mary Habig expressed her enthusiasm about the expansion. "We are excited to offer our services to Huron County and continue to provide safe, reliable transportation throughout North Central Ohio," said Habig. She also acknowledged the contribution of those who participated in selecting the new name, stating, "We appreciate and thank all those who participated in the poll to help select a new name and look for this change." Habig believes that the chosen name accurately represents their service reach, saying, "The final choice clearly represents the services we can provide to an even larger population in need of public transportation."
A press release revealed that NCAT had previously sought opinions on a new organizational name from interested parties. They received feedback from nearly 200 individuals. Consequently, during its December meeting, the board formally approved both the new name and a redesigned logo.
The press release further stated that NCAT plans to extend its expertise, resources, and acclaimed service quality—including its highly regarded drivers—to Huron County. To facilitate information dissemination among current and prospective stakeholders, a new website has been launched. These changes have already taken effect.
Chuck Dyer from ODOT—the funding source for public transportation in rural areas—expressed his optimism about NCAT's expanded service. According to him, "People across Seneca, Crawford, and Huron counties will benefit from NCAT’s expanded service. We’re eager to see NCAT bring its outstanding level of service to Huron County."
