ASHLAND — Law enforcement officials from Columbus and Ashland County were seen searching an area in Sullivan Township for a missing woman on Monday morning.

Ashland County Sheriff Lieutenant Don Sims confirmed police are searching for Renee Lynne Benedetti, a 40 year-old woman who has been missing from Columbus since Feb. 1.

Columbus law enforcement officials, who declined to provide details at the scene on Monday, said in a news article published last week they believe Benedetti had been missing for several days prior to a missing person’s report that was filed on Feb. 1.

Police described Benedetti as being 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighing 135 pounds. She was described as having red/black hair and brown eyes.

Sims said Columbus police have a suspect in custody but declined to identify that person.

Officials used K9s to search the area near the intersection of County Road 681 and Township Road 350 after officials received a signal from a phone connected to the case.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Columbus Division of Police Special Victims Bureau at 614-645-2358 or 614-645-4545, or the Ashland County Sheriff’s office at 419-289-3911.

Authorities are also asking to review any trail camera or doorbell camera footage dating back to Feb. 1, as they believe the suspect was in the area on that date.
