David Barnett, 62, of Mansfield.

Fatal Crash – 1368 N Main Street in Richland County

The Mansfield Division of Police is investigating a fatal crash which occurred Thursday afternoon at 5:48pm just north of 1368 N. Main St in the City of Mansfield.

The crash involved a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck which was traveling southbound on N. Main St. and a 1998 International 9400 semi-truck and trailer that was northbound on N. Main St. Preliminary investigation indicates that there was a head on collision between the pickup truck and semi-truck.

The driver and only occupant of the Dodge Ram 2500, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver and a passenger of the semi-truck were uninjured.

The crash resulted in over 100 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled into the roadway and the semi-truck catching fire. The Mansfield Police Department is being assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Mansfield Fire Department is coordinating with the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure proper containment and clean-up of the diesel fuel. N. Main St is closed to north and southbound traffic between Piper Rd and S Airport Rd. The public is encouraged to avoid this area.

The weather is not believed to have been a contributing factor of the crash.

No further information will be released at this time pending notification of the deceased family.
