“Cram the Cruiser” a Huge Success

ASHLAND POST OHIO HIGHWAY PATROL’S “CRAM THE CRUISER” A HUGE SUCCESS

On Saturday, November 12, the annual “CRAM THE CRUISER,” Sponsored by Ohio State Highway Patrol Ashland Post 3, turned out to be the all-time best! The event was from 10am-2pm at the Ashland Walmart, at 1996 E Main St.

I just can’t say enough about the Ashland community, they made this year’s event the best ever! To give you an idea, in 2018, 2,800 pounds was donated. In 2019 it dropped to 2,380 pounds donated, and then in 2020, it increased to 2,460 pounds donated. In 2021 it jumped to 3,080 pounds donated setting the new record.

This year I created several posts and asked the Ashland community to help beat the previous record, and boy did they ever! This year’s grand total is a whopping 3,300 pounds donated!

Saturday morning, before we could get set up, people were already bringing their donations to the Troopers and Ashland University students, standing by the Associated Charities of Ashland County van, parked out in front of the store.

With the blowing cold air and snow flurries it didn’t take long to feel the cold, Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper, Sgt. Stryker asked if I could grab some Hot Chocolate to take off the chill. So, I made a quick run up to the Tim Horton’s and ordered 5 Hot Chocolates.

Tim Horton’s was happy to donate the ever so delicious Hot Chocolate, for those helping with this event.

“The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Associated Charities of Ashland County, would once again like to extend their appreciation for the generous donations during this year’s Cram the Cruiser event.”  Sgt. Perrin said, “This community always exceeds expectations and shows what it means to truly care about one another. Your contributions will be put to good use helping those in need. Thank you, Ashland County. You truly are the World Headquarters of Nice People.”

“We are thankful for the Ashland University volunteers and our wonderful community members who always go above and beyond,” Sgt. Stryker commented.

“Year after year, the OSP Cram the Cruiser event does not disappoint!” Associated Charities of Ashland County Executive Director, Christine Box said, “Our Ashland community is amazing, 3,300 pounds of nonperishable food items is more than I ever would have imagined! This food will carry us long into the new year, and will help us feed our friends in need.”

Executive Director Christine Box continued, “Associated Charities is blessed with a strong and supportive community, its community helping community, and it’s so special. We can’t do what we do, without this support. On behalf of myself and our Board of Directors, there are not enough words to thank those that assisted in making this event so successful!”

“And to top it all off, Ashland University Boys’ Basketball Team rose to the occasion and helped us unload our van and sort the food. Thank you, gentlemen!” Executive Director Christine Box concluded.
