One of the Top Ohio Dispatchers Retires After 32 YearsOhio State Highway Patrol Dispatcher, Tim Kalbfell retires after 32-years of dedicated service to the Citizens of Ohio. Tim has a familiar voice to anyone that has a scanner, and especially to all the Men & Women that serve in Law Enforcement.Tim is that clam voice in the middle of the storm. For the past 32-years, Tim has answered thousands of 911 calls for everything imaginable, yet through it all, he remained calm and professional.Today, Tim has hung up his hat and retired.I took a little drive over to Wooster today, to congratulate him for all his years of service.At 11am, Tim’s retirement party kicked off, with Ohio State Highway Patrol Wooster Post, Lieutenant Todd Roberts providing comments. Then the invocation was given by Sergeant Andrew Topp. Troopers and dispatchers, current and retired, came to congratulate Tim on a job well done.Lieutenant Roberts started off providing information on the years before dispatcher Kalbfell joined the OHP team. “Tim grew up in Greentown, Ohio and graduated from North Canton Hoover High School in 1980. Upon graduation he became a Firefighter and EMT with the Greentown Fire Department, where he served for 13 years.”“In 1990 he was hired by the Western Stark County Dispatch Center, where he was a police and fire dispatcher for Jackson Township and the City of Massillon.” Lieutenant Roberts told the attendees.“On July 26, 1998, Tim was hired with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and began dispatching at the former Massillon District Headquarters, and then transferred to the newly built Canton Post, upon its completion,” Lieutenant Roberts said of Tim’s beginnings with OHP.Lieutenant Roberts went on to say, “Tim also served at the New Philadelphia post and has been at the Wooster Post since June of 2012. With 24 years of service to the Highway Patrol, 8 years at the Regional Emergency Dispatch Center and 13 years as a firefighter/EMT. Tim has given 42 years of his life to serve the citizens of the State of Ohio.”Lieutenant Roberts spoke of Tims achievements, “During his tenure with OSP, Tim was selected as Post Dispatcher of the year 3 times, in1999, 2004 and again in 2010, and he received 4 commendation letters.”“Outside of Work,” Lieutenant Roberts went on to say, “Tim is an avid Jeeper and is the President of the Northeast Ohio Jeep Junkies. He is on his 5th Jeep build and looks forward to others in the future. Tim resides with his wife Mindy, who is an elementary school teacher at Hayesville elementary, at their residence in Perrysville, Ohio.”“After retirement, Tim plans to take some time off to spend with his family and get out in his Jeep,” concluded Lieutenant Roberts.Sergeant Andrew Topp closed with the Benediction.Ashland Post Trooper, Sgt. Stryker said, “Tim always had a positive attitude and we will all miss his voice on the radio and phone. I am so happy for him and wish him the best in his retirement.”Ashland Post Commander, Lieutenant Brad Bishop said, “It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a positive person. The amount of people that Tim helped over his career could never be measured.”Tim, buddy ol pal, I’m going to miss you, congratulations on this milestone and may you enjoy life that much more, thanks for your professional attitude over these years.
