Dog Struck on State Route 58

Dog Struck on State Route 58
Ashland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a dog, that had been struck by a car, on State Route 58, just North of the tracks in Sullivan.
All attempts to find the owner have failed. If you know whose dog this is, please contact the Sheriff’s Office, or the Claremont Veterinary Clinic, at (419) 289-0009.
Today, I witnessed some of the most caring hands and hearts ever, working together to save a life. The pictures are hard to look at, but I feel they are important.
The dog had been laying there for some time, and was shaking his back legs, but they seem stiff. The Sheriff Deputy didn’t waste a minute, “we need a blanket,” he said. I had a new fleece jacket in my car, and I immediately retrieved it, and gave it to Deputy Hall. With ever so careful hands, it was wrap around the injured dog, and used for comfort and warmth.
The dog began to be responsive, and cry out in pain, but just a low whimpering painful cry. Fearing the dog would bite, a young man at the scene helped to get the dog loaded into the car.
The dog was taken to the Claremont Veterinary Clinic, where Dr. Kristine Lafever and her team responded with the care and professionalism that any pet owner would expect for the treatment of their pet.
This dog will need is a great deal of time to heal and lots of love. I will check back tomorrow, to see if there is anything else the clinic might need for the dog’s care.
