Ashland University Students Feel Slighted

Students are asking the University to reverse their decision to not have graduation ceremony this fall.

In a message sent to Ashland County Pictures this evening said in part,

“I am reaching out because I am an Ashland University student, however, we just got an email stating that the school is not going to give us Fall graduates a graduation ceremony, it’s unclear why. They said we can walk in the spring commencement, but a lot of us won’t be there for spring.”

University Students have even started an on-line petition called “Give Fall '22 Graduates a Commencement” at https://www.change.org/.../give-fall-22-graduates-a...

The Email read as follows:

Good afternoon,

This year, we will be holding a graduation celebration for our December graduating students. This event will take the place of a traditional commencement ceremony in December 2022. We will be hosting this celebration in December and will have more details and an invitation for you in the coming weeks.

These details will be formalized and communicated by the Provost's office in collaboration with the colleges. Further, all graduates may participate in the Spring Commencement Ceremony, and we hope you will choose to do so. If you decide you would like to attend the Spring commencement ceremony, please send an email to regis@ashland.edu.

One Ashland University student posted, “I feel like telling graduates to come back later isn't a very fair thing to do after they invested thousands into their education.”

Another one posted, “I'm graduating in December. I have poured countless amounts of funds, energy, and willpower into making it this far. It's been anything but easy, and the finish line I looked forward to crossing is now being taken away from me and all the other students that have dedicated their lives to their study and this school. Ashland has made numerous problematic calls in regards to their leadership in the past, and now we're here once again. For a campus that claims to care so much about every individual, they sure do show that we are nothing but a paycheck to milk dry and dispose of upon graduation. How much will you take from us before it's enough? Give us what we've earned”
