State Representative Melanie Miller joined a meeting on May 8 hosted by the Hope Recovery Community and the Medina County Mental Health and Recovery Board, welcoming U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Medina County.
The visit brought attention to addiction recovery efforts in the region, as community members shared their experiences with Secretary Kennedy and showcased local support programs for those affected by substance use disorder.
During his time at Hope Recovery Community, Secretary Kennedy listened to stories from Ohioans in recovery, toured the facility, and learned about its approach as a unique model for addiction and recovery support. The organization highlights peer-based support services tailored for individuals in recovery, family members of those struggling with addiction, and incarcerated individuals. Education initiatives inform residents about substance use disorder, while a local Recovery Farm provides workforce training opportunities, addresses food insecurity, and supports ongoing recovery through farm-based activities.
“Hope Recovery does incredible work in our community to support Ohioans on their path to recovery,” said Miller. “I appreciate Secretary Kennedy taking the time to visit Medina County, hear directly from individuals in recovery, and learn more about community-driven solutions that are changing lives across Ohio.”
Medina County’s collaborative efforts include partnerships among the Park District, Cathy’s House, Hope Recovery Community, and support from the county’s Alcohol Drug Addiction & Mental Health (ADAMH) Board. The working farm initiative is designed not only for workforce development but also produces goods benefiting non-profits such as Feeding Medina County.
Miller serves as state representative for Ohio’s 67th House District covering Ashland and Medina counties; she leads various legislative committees including Arts, Athletics and Tourism Committee; participates on several others related to health care; holds leadership roles at local organizations; is active in civic groups; received recognition such as the Ashland County Women of Achievement Award; has chaired multiple committees; earned her bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University; is married to Matt Miller—the mayor of Ashland—and has provided public service throughout both counties according to the official website.
Miller is also part of the Ohio House MAHA Caucus which aims at improving quality of life by discussing access to high-quality foods and healthcare system improvements.
