State Representatives Josh Williams and Melanie Miller have reintroduced the Paid Parental Leave Act. This proposed legislation aims to promote family welfare in Ohio by encouraging employers to offer paid parental leave through a nonrefundable tax credit for qualified employers.
Williams emphasized the significance of the early months of an infant’s life, explaining, “The first few months of an infant’s life are extremely crucial to the establishment of these strong familial bonds.” He believes the bill could make Ohio more appealing to both families and businesses by easing the cost of providing these benefits.
Miller also advocates for the measure, stating, “Parents should not have to miss out on their infant’s first few months of life and the bonds that are formed during that time.” She views the tax credit as a form of support for both families and businesses.
The Paid Parental Leave Act revives House Bill 682, which was introduced in the previous General Assembly. At present, the bill awaits both a number and a committee assignment in the Ohio House of Representatives.
