Brethren Care Village Health Care Center ranked as the third largest nursing facility in Ashland County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
Records indicate the facility offered 79 beds, 18 fewer than the county average for that quarter, and served an average of 71.8 residents.
The center carried a CMS overall rating of 4 out of 5, which exceeds the Ohio statewide average of 3.2 for nursing homes.
The Good Shepherd led Ashland County for available beds with 125, while Kingston of Ashland ranked second with 110 beds.
CMS data also shows that Brethren Care Village Health Care Center had no fines or penalties assessed during the first quarter of 2026.
As of the same quarter, Ashland County, Ohio, had a single non-profit nursing home.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s population of older adults is rising, while younger demographics decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and up increased by 13%, compared to a 1.7% drop for those under 18. The country’s older adult population has increased substantially over 100 years, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 report estimates nearly half of this group—approximately 28 million people—could require long-term support and services. The analysis further projects more than one-third may ultimately need care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
